Z-Wave: Home Automation Hype

by hometheater on August 28, 2011

Why has home automation not lived up to its hype? Z-Wave’s Mark Walters talks to Ilyce Glink about how past home automation technology was unreliable and expensive. He also demonstrates Z-Wave’s new home automation technology. Is home automation still just hype? Or, is it something worth having?

Hype is right.
The reason the tech has gone nowhere is because THERE IS NO REAL PROBLEM.
How hard is it to turn on a light or run the bath?? And who the heck needs to do that from the car???

How about this:
A home security system that detects an intruder, traps/disables him, and calls the cops.
Or a dishwasher that puts the plates back in the cupboard.
Or, voice activation on some of this stuff.
